Main image
Sudan is facing one of the worst floods situation seen for more than 70 years, according to initial reports the floods have killed 99 people and damaged/destroyed up to at least 100,000 homes affecting more than half a million people. Humanitarian needs are rapidly increasing as the country faces multiple shocks beside the floods, including the economic crisis, violence and disease outbreaks. In addition, the current rainy season will run until end of October and more rainfall is expected which could worsen the current situation. IFRC has launched an Emergency Appeal that seeks a total of some 12 Million Swiss francs to support the Sudan Red Crescent Society (MRC) to provide immediate assistance and early recovery support to 200,000 people affected by the floods for a period of 24 months. The operation will have a specific focus on Shelter, Livelihoods and Basic needs; Health; WASH; PGI; DRR.
