Tropical Storm Ana lashed the Southern and Central Districts of Malawi from Monday 24 January, bringing strong winds and heavy rains. More than 500,000 people are estimated to have been affected and infrastructure and power supplies have been significantly damaged. Through this emergency appeal, the IFRC is seeking a total of CHF 6.5M to support the Malawi Red Cross in meeting the immediate needs of displaced families, helping them rebuild their homes and livelihoods, and reducing their risk to future disasters. The IFRC response will focus on the following sectors: Integrated Assistance, Health & Care (including Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH)), Protection and Prevention.
